THE ETHER

All day, I’ve been listening to the album ‘Kokyu’ that I found through the movie All About Lily Chou Chou (A great watch that you should go here to find out more about). Now that it’s turned 2am, and the new school term is just over that black horizon, I can still hear the impeccable melody of the fifth track Kaifuku suru Kizu ringing like church bells in the back of my ears. There’s really no way to describe this album, It’s a perfect synthesis of confusion, sadness, lethargy, calm and helplessness all distilled into a lil-under forty minutes of indie pop.

The verdict is that everyone should listen to this – a pure 9/10 (perfect except a few songs that weren’t jaw dropping) and much better than most of the stuff on the radio. If you want to watch the movie before or after you listen, though it isn’t necessary, I heartily recommend it. The ether fits very well – obviously since they were made in tandem. Other shows/movies that compliment this album would be Haibane Renmei, gunslinger girl, alien 9 (to an extent) and spice and wolf (in mood but not themes).
